I've been working with Closer Care for a few weeks now and they have well exceeded expectations. The organisation is a lot more responsive and reliable than some of their competitors. It has been a real pleasure to work with Thomas and I'm really looking forward to seeing what we can achieve in the future.

I have worked for Closer Care for almost a year now as a Psychosocial Support Worker. During this time I have been impressed with the service Alineh offers the NDIS participants making sure she matches participants and PSW so that they receive the support they need. Alineh also takes great care of her team offering staff training, staff catch-ups via zoom, and yoga sessions so that the staff get to know each other and build a strong team. If you are looking to change your career or if you are looking for care I highly recommend Closer Care

Friendly caring and supportive workplace that focuses on looking after their staff and their NDIS participants. Pleasure to work for especially after leaving the large Airline industry where I was "just a number" and work life balance didn't exist. Agon is a wonderful boss and goes the extra mile to make sure all staff have the best resources and appreciation to do their job well. The team is a wonderful mix and has a family feel and environment. Definable recommend working with this wonderful company.

A support worker is a professional who assists individuals who have disabilities, chronic illnesses, or other physical or mental health conditions. Their main role is to provide support in various aspects of daily life, helping those they care for to live as independently as possible. Duties can include assisting with personal care tasks like bathing and dressing, household tasks such as cooking and cleaning, and also providing emotional support and companionship. They may also help individuals to participate in community activities, manage their finances, and attend appointments. Overall, a support worker plays a key role in improving the quality of life for the people they assist.

When hiring a support worker, you should consider several qualifications and qualities. Many support workers have an educational background in social work, nursing, or psychology. However, specific qualifications like a Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, or Aged Care can also be beneficial.

Prior experience working in a similar role, especially with individuals who have similar needs to your own, is important. The support worker should be familiar with providing personal care, managing medications, and supporting independence.

First Aid and CPR certification are essential as the support worker may need to respond to emergency situations. They should also have clearance checks such as a clear criminal record and, if working with vulnerable populations, a valid working with children or vulnerable adults check.

If the support worker needs to transport the person they’re caring for, they should have a valid driver’s license. Personal qualities are also vital; look for someone who is empathetic, patient, reliable, and has good communication skills. They should respect the person’s dignity and independence.

Additional training in areas such as managing challenging behavior, manual handling, mental health first aid, or specific conditions relevant to the individual’s needs can be very beneficial.

Above all, it is crucial that the support worker is a good fit for the individual they will be supporting. The person should feel comfortable with and trust their support worker.

Yes, you can receive funding through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) to hire a support worker. The NDIS provides funding to eligible people based on their individual needs and can fund supports in employment for participants who need extra assistance to achieve their employment goals.

A support worker service agreement is a contract between a service provider (the support worker or the organisation they work for) and a client (the individual receiving the support). This agreement outlines the type of services that will be provided, the cost of these services, and the terms and conditions under which they will be delivered.

Yes, a support worker can provide mental health support. They are often trained to assist individuals who live with various mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and more. They can offer help in managing these conditions and improving the individual’s quality of life.
