At Closer Care, we believe placements should be more than observation hours and paperwork. A quality placement program should inspire confidence, develop practical skills and prepare students for meaningful careers in the disability, community services and social work sectors.
Our placement program has been designed to give students real world experience within a supportive, professional and purpose driven environment.
Based in Gladesville, Sydney, Closer Care welcomes students completing placements in areas such as Community Services, Disability Support, Social Work and related fields. We understand that placements are often the first real experience students have working directly within the disability and mental health sectors, which is why we focus heavily on mentorship, education and practical learning opportunities.
A Placement Program Focused on Real Experience
At Closer Care, students are encouraged to actively participate in the day to day operations of a growing registered NDIS provider. Rather than simply shadowing staff, students are exposed to practical experiences that help bridge the gap between theory and real world practice.
Depending on placement goals and experience levels, students may gain exposure to:
- Support planning and client documentation
- Case notes and professional record keeping
- Risk assessments and participant support strategies
- Communication and engagement skills
- Mental health and psychosocial support environments
- Group programs and community participation activities
- Professional boundaries and ethical practice
- Team collaboration and leadership development
Our aim is to help students build confidence while understanding the importance of person centred care and professionalism within the disability sector.
Learning Within a Holistic Approach to Care
Closer Care is known for its Holistic Approach to Care, which is integrated into every part of our placement program.
We encourage students to look beyond tasks and understand the importance of emotional wellbeing, communication, empowerment, independence and genuine human connection when supporting participants.
Students learn that quality support is not only about meeting immediate needs but also helping people build confidence, develop life skills and feel connected within their communities.
This approach gives students valuable insight into how compassionate, individualised support can create meaningful long term outcomes for participants and families.
A Creative and Supportive Learning Environment
One of the things that makes the Closer Care placement experience unique is our welcoming and modern Gladesville centre designed to support both learning and wellbeing.
We understand that environment plays an important role in confidence, creativity and connection, which is why we have created a space that feels professional, supportive and engaging for both participants and students.
Our centre includes soft sensory lounges, calming lighting, music, collaborative workspaces and interactive games areas that encourage connection, creativity and positive engagement. Students completing placement at Closer Care are exposed to environments that support emotional wellbeing, social interaction and person centred care in action.
The space is intentionally designed to reflect our Holistic Approach to Care, helping students understand how environment, communication and emotional safety can influence participant experiences and outcomes.
Many students tell us that the atmosphere at Closer Care feels different from traditional placement environments because it combines professionalism with warmth, creativity and community connection.
Through both structured learning and everyday interactions within the centre, students gain insight into how thoughtful environments can positively support mental health, social participation and confidence building within the disability sector.
Developing Future Professionals
Our placement program is also designed to help students grow professionally and personally.
We know entering the workforce can feel overwhelming, so we focus on creating an environment where students feel supported to ask questions, build skills and develop confidence in their professional identity.
Many students complete placement with stronger communication skills, greater self awareness and a deeper understanding of working within multidisciplinary and fast paced support environments.
We are passionate about helping future professionals develop not only technical knowledge but also leadership, empathy and resilience.
A Supportive Learning Environment in Sydney
Our modern Gladesville centre provides students with the opportunity to learn within a collaborative and welcoming environment.
Students often engage with a range of programs and services delivered at Closer Care, including:
- Daily living and community participation supports
- Employment and capacity building programs
- Group activities and workshops
- Mental health and psychosocial supports
- Art therapy and wellbeing focused activities
This allows students to experience the diversity of the NDIS sector while understanding how different supports work together to improve participant outcomes.
