This week at Closer Care, we held a BBQ to celebrate one of our participant’s birthdays, the first day of our new placement students and welcoming our special guests from Thriveable Fitness. It was fun, we had food on the grill, people hanging around, chatting, eating cake, playing ping pong and enjoying the space together. Moments like this reflect how we approach community at Closer Care.
Alongside individual supports, we also create opportunities for people to come together through group activities, shared meals, celebrations, and community events. These moments help people feel connected to the centre and to each other. Not every connection happens in a scheduled session. Sometimes it is built through casual conversations, familiar faces, and time spent together.

Part of a bigger picture
The birthday BBQ is just one example of how we use our space. We regularly host group activities and community events that bring people together in relaxed, practical ways. These activities are about creating an environment where people feel comfortable, included, and part of something ongoing.

What does our community look like?
For us, community is about consistency. People recognising each other, feeling welcome when they walk in, and knowing they belong.
If you are interested in our group activities or upcoming community events, you are always welcome to get in touch or drop by and see what is happening at the centre.
