Finishing school can be both exciting and overwhelming for young people living with disability and their families. Many students leave school asking the same questions: What comes next? How do I prepare for work? What supports are available through the NDIS?
The transition from school into adulthood is a major life stage, and having the right support can make a significant difference in building confidence, independence, social skills, and future employment opportunities.
Under the NDIS, many participants may be eligible for funding designed to support capacity building, increased independence, and pathways into employment. This can include supports that help young people develop practical life skills, communication skills, workplace readiness, social confidence, and goal setting.
At Closer Care, we understand that employment preparation is about far more than simply finding a job. It is about helping young people discover their strengths, build confidence, develop communication and interpersonal skills, and feel supported as they transition into adulthood.
Our Employment Launch Program has been designed to support participants as they begin exploring future pathways including employment, volunteering, further education, and increased independence. The program focuses on practical and real world skill development through areas such as:
• Goal setting and self awareness
• Communication and presentation skills
• Resume and interview preparation
• Teamwork and workplace expectations
• Digital and social media skills
• Confidence building and personal development
Importantly, every participant’s journey looks different. Some young people may already know the career path they wish to pursue, while others are still discovering their interests and strengths. Our approach focuses on meeting participants where they are at and supporting them to grow at their own pace within a safe and encouraging environment.
The years after school are not simply about “having it all figured out.” They are about exploration, learning, growth, and building the foundations for future opportunities.
At Closer Care, we are passionate about helping young people feel empowered about their future and supported through every stage of their journey toward independence, community participation, and meaningful employment.
